CAMPUS

August 20-24

Parents,

We are off to a great start! We have been practicing procedures and following school and classroom rules and expectations! I have a great class! These students are making friends and building relationships that will carry on for a long time. We are learning manners and how to respect each other.

This week we will be working on the letter Cc. We will be practicing writing Cc, learning what sound it makes, and talking about  words that begin with the letter Cc.

We are also beginning to learn and discover one-to-one correspondence while working with pattern blocks and counting bears. We are learning to write the numbers 1-8.

We will begin working on sight words this week. We are starting off with two words (a, to). They are in the back of your child’s binder in the pencil pouch. Please practice these with your child each night and put them back in the pouch. We will add to them each week all year. Sight words are a very important part of your child’s reading instruction. It is vital that they practice these words EVERY DAY! They must know over 50 words by the end of the year.

Last week I sent home a note about our reading wall. Please read books to your child every day and write the titles on a piece of paper. When you get a list of 10 send them to the library. Your child will get their name called during the morning announcements and they will get to go up to the front and move their name on the wall. At the end of each 9 weeks, we will have an awards assembly. Those that have reached 100, 200, 300 etc. will get an award. Every year I have students that are so sad and dissapointed that they don’t get an award. Please help your child to reach these goals so that they can get the awards.

If you would like to check out a bag of books (10), please send a note or call the librarian and she can get your child set up for that. She must have a note or a phone call from you before your child can bring home a bag of books.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
